Hello Everyone!
Welcome Back to School!!! I am so excited to be teaching your children this year!! I hope you are all having a wonderful Monday! Here are a few highlights of what is happening this week in Fifth Grade...

Later this week, we will discuss how cells make up tissue and how tissue makes up organs and finally how organs make up systems. We will then learn about several of the body systems.
Science Lab- Today, during Science Lab, we grew gummy bears. Ask your child what happened to their gummy bear.

We will be identifying important features of the Olmec, Maya, Mound Builders, and the Anasazi cultures. We will be learning how the Anasazi adapted to and modified their environment. The students will also be working on several map skills through out this chapter like Latitude and longitude as well as using a map key.
Reading- We will be reading a realistic fiction story called the Hot and Cold Summer. After reading this story, we will begin working on the “Voice” writing trait so that the students can develop their own writing voice.
Language Arts- The students will be taking a Diagnostics Word Study test this week to determine where in Word Study each student should begin. This makes Word Study unique to each student.
We will be exploring new words, parts of speech, definitions, synonyms and antonyms for these words in our Vocabulary class this week.
In Grammar, we will be learning about the four kinds of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamatory). We will be learning how to use the punctuation and the sentence itself to identify the type of sentence.
