I wanted to give everyone a heads up that Mass will be on Wednesday at 10:15 AM, with Fr. Kevin. Please wear your church uniforms.
We will also be having the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday!
Please make plans to attend the Parents and Students informational Meeting on Wednesday, April 2nd about Stepping up to Middle School! Many topics will be covered. If you have any questions about Middle School don't hesitate to ask! Don't forget to RSVP by Thursday, March 27th through SchoolSpeak to Mrs. Paul.
April's Book Report is on a Biography Book!
The Science Projects were awesome!!!
Here are a few highlights of what is happening this week in Fifth Grade...
Religion- The students will be taking their Chapter 17 Test next Tuesday! The students will be learning why healing was an important part of Jesus' ministry. They will be able to explain that Jesus gave the apostles the power to heal others in His name. We will be learning more about the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
Math- The students will be tested on Chapter 7 on Tuesday. The students will be starting Chapter 8 on Adding and Subtracting Decimals. We will be reviewing decimal place value and how to add and subtract decimals when estimating.
Please remind your student to practice on IXL- Level G exercises E.1-E.6 are all excellent choices for practice this week. We are trying to complete over 35,000 math problems as a class.
Science- The students will be taking a test on Unit B Chapter 4 tomorrow. Then the students will be learning about the Changes to Earth's Surface. They will be learning how Earth's crust is broken down into soil and how water, wind and ices changes landforms.
Science Lab- The students will be learning about Phases of the Moon. Today we watched a Powerpoint presentation on the Moon and its Phases as well as listened to and sang two songs about the phases of the moon. Tomorrow we will be completing an activity where we can create the phases of the moon in the classroom and the students will have to identify them.
Social Studies- The students are learning about the colonial way of life. We will be analyzing the colonial cities and identify and explain the geographic features that determined where people decided to settle. We will also be evaluating the effect of slave codes on the lives of the African captives.
Reading- We are reading “Little By Little” which is an Autobiography written by Jean Little. The students will be taking a Test on this story on Thursday.
Language Arts- The students will be learning new Word Study words this week to help the students to spell based off of the main features included in their word lists.
This week we will not be having a new vocabulary unit. We will be working on several skills in our Vocabulary books. There will not be a Vocabulary Test this week. Please encourage your child to visit website for activities to strengthen their vocabulary skills.
In Grammar, the students will be learning about object pronouns, when to use I and me or we and us and possessive and demonstrative pronouns.
Physical Education/Health- This week in health we will discuss Family Life curriculum. In P.E. we will play Badminton.
Music- Students will be completing their composition performances.
Spanish - The students will list methods of communication used in the past and in the present and repeat the names of the nouns in Spanish.
Technology- This week in Technology, the students will be working on blogging, finishing up their Character Scrapbooks and typing their president paragraphs. Then the students will continue working on IXL and Videotaping their commercials in the broadcasting studio.
Art- Students will be introduced to NASA Langley Research Center’s Art Contest “The Future Is Now”. Please Sign and Return the Permission Slips for the NASA Poster Contest.
