Just a reminder that there is Mass on Wednesday this week.
If you have not sent in your child's Plain White T-shirt, please do so by Wednesday as we need to tie dye them for the POW-WOW!! Thanks!!

The POW-WOW is next week on Wednesday, November 26th at 10 AM. Please try to join us! Remember, we dismiss at 12 Noon on November 26th for Thanksgiving and there is NO SCHOOL on November 27th and 28th.
Please do not forget that the students are required to read 10 minutes a night and do IXL for 30 minutes for the week and record it on their Logs. It counts as a quiz grade. Please assist me in helping your child become a lifelong reader. These logs are do every Monday for a quiz grade.
Here are a few highlights of what is happening this week in Fifth Grade...
Religion- The students will be preparing for their Chapter 10 test on Tuesday. The students will be introduced to the Introductory Rites as uniting us as a community. The students will learn the importance of listening and responding to the Word of God. The students will examine each part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The students will identify ways to care for the needs of others.
Math- The students will be using various strategies to solve word problems (using an organized list) and we will be preparing for our Chapter 4 Test on Thursday.
IXL Math-The students can work on Level G sections L.1 through L.15 on IXL. This will help your children to practice number theory. Please remind your child to record their information on their Math Logs because their IXL time counts as a quiz grade. The students will only be required 30 minutes on IXL.
Science-This week we will be learning about the circulatory, respiratory, digestive and excretory systems. They will learn about which organs makes up each system as well as hoe they work together. They will find out what the structure and function of the bones are. Finally, they will be learning about how the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems work together.
Science Lab- This week we will be making Oobleck also known as slime!!
Social Studies- The students will be able to explain the reasons for Cortes's interest in the Aztec empire. The students will also describe the events that led to the fall of the Aztec Empire. They will summarize the results of Pizarro's conquest of the Inca Empire. We will also begin Pow-wow preparations by creating a Native American Tale.
Reading- The students will present their Story Skeleton Book Reports to the class. We will begin working on our Reader's Theater presentation of “The Hidden One.” We will begin reading the nonfiction story, “The Summer of Fire” by Patricia Lauber. Please remind them to document their minutes for their home D.E.A.R. Time as it counts as a quiz.
Language Arts-Word Study- The students in the Yellow Group will be sorting their words based off of Long -i patterns in accented syllables; 1st or 2nd syllables and there are three words in the oddball category (machine, forgive, and favorite). The students in the Pink Group will be sorting their words based on the R-influenced A in Accented Syllables (1st ar, 1st long -a, and 2nd long -a). They will have one oddball toward. The students in the Blue Group will be sorting their words based on Latin Roots -GRESS (to go), -RUPT (to break), -TRACT (to draw or pull) and -MOT (to move). Word Study Test on Friday.
This week in Vocabulary we will be working on Unit 10! They will have a test on Unit 10 on Friday. If you have not accessed the Grammar or Vocabulary websites, please do so by using the access code located on the second page in their book to create a user log-in so that your child will be able to take advantage of the fun learning games available. There is not a test this week!
In Grammar, the students will be learning about verb phrases: progressive forms of verbs and perfect tenses.
Physical Education/Health- We continue to explore the game of Hockey learning rules, terms associated with the game. Lead up activities and safety are also investigated this week.
Music- Students will continue practicing their Pow-wow songs as well as Christmas Program music.
Spanish- This week we will continue working on the Numbers to tell the day’s date and how old we are, and other festivities. Have a wonderful week!!!
Technology- This week we will finish making explorer trading cards. The students will choose one explorer and create a trading card with information that they have researched in class. We will also be editing our Native American Tales and printing them so that we can display them in the hall. We will also be working on IXL.
Art- In Fifth Grade this week, we’ll add highlights and shadows to our final figure drawings, and assemble them for display.
