Hello Everyone!
I hope that you all had an awesome Weekend!!
Just a reminder that Mass this week is on Wednesday at 10 AM, with Father Brian.
Wednesday, September 23rd, is a 1 PM dismissal day.
Progress Reports will be sent out on SchoolSpeak this week!
This week is Student Advisory Council Campaign Week!! The students in 5th Grade will be participating in electing our 2014-2015 Student Council members.
Time lines are due on October 1st.
Please do not forget that the students are required to read and do IXL for 10 minutes a night. Please assist me in helping your child become a lifelong reader. They need to turn in their Reading Logs every Monday morning as it counts for a grade.
Here are a few highlights of what is happening this week in Fifth Grade...
Religion-The students will be reviewing how Jesus shares His mission with the Church and then they will be evaluated on Chapter 2 on Tuesday. Then the remainder of the week we will be exploring the Seven Sacraments and how the Church celebrates them. The students will learn that the Seven Sacraments are special signs of God's love. The students will be able to identify and describe the Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing and the Sacraments of Service.
Math-We will be jumping into Multiplication! Please review multiplication facts with your children! The students will understand and perform the operation of multiplication, the properties of multiplication and use the pattern for multiplying by 10 and multiples of 10 as a shortcut. The students can work on Level G section F.1 through F.8 on IXL. This will help your children to practice their multiplication.
Science-This week in Nancy Larson Science we are learning about asteroids, meteoroids, meteors, meteorites, dwarf planets, and comets. They will be able to describe the two motions of Earth, identify the cause of day and night on Earth and identify why the Sun, Moon and stars appear to move across the sky.
Science Lab-This week we did an observation lab about what a can of soda would feel like on each planet, the moon and the dwarf planet, Pluto. Ask your child on which planet would the soda weigh the most? the least?
Social Studies-The students will be exploring how the Hopi and Navajo used their environment to enrich their lives. The students will be determining the influences of the environment and natural resources on Native Americans who lived in the Eastern Woodlands. They will be identifying the main features of the Hodenosaunee culture. They will also be able to describe the goals and organization of the Iroquois Confederacy.

Please make sure that your child spends some extra time reading over the story and identifying the Vocabulary presented in the story.
