Hello Everyone!
I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend.
Thank you so much to my two parent volunteers for the 5th grade PTO Representative! I really appreciate your help!

Here are a few highlights of what is happening this week in Fifth Grade...

They will understand that each sacrament fits into one of the three categories, Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, or Sacraments of Service to others.

We are also continuing to take our one minute multiplication quizzes. The students will learn how to multiply using the clustering strategy, which many students enjoy.
Science-This week we are learning about Complete and Incomplete metamorphosis. The students will be able to identify the stages of development for each by the end of the week. We will be discussing Inherited traits. The students will need to identify three traits that they did or could inherit from their parents.
Science Lab-Today, we completed a lab on Sound waves using a tuning fork and a cup of water. We discussed how sound in outer space cannot be heard based on the fact that sound travels through matter.
We also observed Newton's Laws of motion by using Newton's cradle.
Social Studies-We will be learning about the Native Americans of the Plains and the Cause and Effect, reading skill. The students will find out how the Lakota and other Plains Peoples used their environment to enrich their lives. They will learn about the importance of Buffalo and how they never wasted any parts of the buffalo, finding a purpose for each part.
Reading-We will continue reading the story called "Elena." This story is a Historical Fiction piece. So far the students this that this story is sad and they feel bad for the main character. I am pretty sure that they also see the benefits of what her mother did for her family.
Language Arts-The students will continue to sort their words by each feature, daily. This will help the students to determine what sound to listen for and what they should write when identifying other words that also have the same feature.
In Grammar, the students will be able to identify sentence fragments and run-ons, and correct them. We will also review all of the lessons in Chapter 1 and complete a quiz. The students will also be learning how to diagram sentences.
Physical Education/Health- We will continue to explore different types of exercise. We will work on conditioning and flexibility exercises. Rotation stations which highlight a particular group of muscle groups, particular type of exercise will make up a fun and engaging obstacle course for the students. Football Ball will be our game this week focusing on football skill drills.
Spanish- In Spanish we will continue to identify and recite parts of the body and recognize numbers 0 – 50. We will use activities from Quizlet.
Music-Students will continue to explore notes B-A-G on recorder learning new songs and rhythms.
Technology-We will be continuing the classroom olympics and learning how to record our data into a spreadsheet.

This week we will continue working on self portraits and using mirrors to achieve a likeness.
